Through The Wonderful Kingdom


The Alvão Natural Park is situated in the Serra do Alvão and occupies more than 7 000 hectares, incorporating part of the municipalities of Mondim de Basto and Vila Real.

It is an area with granite and schist formations of great geological and scenic interest, where the waterfall of the river Olo stands out. The fauna is abundant and diversified, where you can find several species of animals, such us the peregrine falcon, the short-toed eagle, several bat species, the wildcat and the Iberian wolf. The flora includes abundant vegetation and forests of great botanical value, due to the biodiversity that they contain.


Fisgas de Ermelo are the most emblematic place of the Alvão Natural Park.



They have one of the largest waterfalls in Europe with a vertical drop of about 400 meters, based on quartzite rocks with slingshots about 480 million years.

There are dozens of paths for hiking, duly marked, with incredible landscapes being the most sought the waterfalls.


The singular and wild beauty of Fisgas de Ermelo attracts thousands of visitors every year who come here with all the senses awake and the desire and the promise to return many times. Either upstream or downstream from the falls, you can find natural lagoons, pure and crystalline waters, called "piocas" that invite the refreshing baths.
